Junior School

Junior School is for children aged two to twelve. The focus of Junior School is igniting passion for learning through play and exploration. Junior School classes are play and project based. Junior School is divided into two phases: Core and Love of Learners.

Core (2-8)
Created to give core phase children a safe and fun learning environment based on learning through play.   Activities can include: circle time, books, active play, nature walks, literature based activities, crafts, free play, practical life skills, etc. Parents are encouraged to teach and lead activities on a subject they are passionate about. It could be anything from hiking to cooking, messy science experiments or super heroes. This class is 95% hands-on. Core classes are divided into three age groups:
  • Tadpoles (ages 2-4)
  • Polliwogs (ages 5-6)
  • Frogs (ages 7-8)

Love of Learning (9-13)
This project-based class explores diverse themes throughout the year. Each theme lasts 4-5 weeks and has hands-on projects for the students to explore. At the end of each theme the students get to share a presentation, which they have worked on at home, with the class. They also have "student share" at the beginning of each class, where the students have the opportunity to share their own interests. The end of theme presentation and "student share" are not required. They exist to serve as a way for the students to get to know one another, provide opportunity for self-expression, provide a chance for them to practice speaking in front of their peers, and give them a reason to work on their presentations at home. They are encouraged to delve deeper into subjects that spark an interest in them and to follow any "rabbit trail" where it may lead.

Love of Learning Book Club (9-13)
There is just something magical about discussing a story with our friends. In this project based class we will read books, at home, then meet once a month to discuss them, do hands on activities, and have a lot of fun together. Regardless of if you are reluctant reader or a speed reader this is a class that you will want to be a part of.

Slammin' Scholar Skills (minimum age 11)
Learn the skills needed to begin a successful scholar phase: the art of reading, writing, discussing, and public speaking. We will build upon the LOL monthly book club choice along with other selected readings throughout the year. Class will meet the Thursday afternoons that book club is not scheduled. Participation in the LOL book club is required as it will be an integral part of our discussions and learning.
